Compatibility/Requirements: The MarketingPilot Web Server 3 IS NOT compatible with MarketingPilot for Windows.

Web Server 3 Prerequisites

The MarketingPilot Web Server consists of three components - the alert service, database server and web server – which may reside on the same server or on separate servers. To install MarketingPilot you will need the following items:

Minimum Server Requirements

    1. Minimum hardware requirements consist of one Windows computer (XP, Server 2000, or Server 2003) with at least 2 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk storage and a 1GHz Pentium processor. A faster processor and additional RAM will improve performance. We strongly recommend the provision of a back up device to protect data.
    2. The Web Server component requires a non-dedicated Windows server running Microsoft Internet Information Service (R5 or higher) and .Net 2.0. We recommend IIS 6 because of its improved security and performance.
    3. The Database Server component requires Microsoft SQL Server Edition Server 2000 or 2005. You should provide approximately 1GB of disk space per user.
    4. The Alert Server component must be installed on a Windows computer. It requires approximately 50MB of available memory and 100 MB of available disk storage.
    5. Users require a computer with an internet browser such as Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Firefox or Safari. Our word processor has limited functions when using Safari.
    6. A valid license key to install MarketingPilot. License Keys are sent via email to the registered Administrator who was designated at the time of purchase. If you need a license key resent to you, contact Support.
    7. Windows user privileges (power user or administrators) that enable you to install software on your desktop computer and server.
    8. Users of SQL Server editions will require a SQL Server login for SQL Server to attach the MarketingPilot database and setup SQL Server Logins for MarketingPilot.
    9. We strongly recommend that you obtain and configure a 128-bit SSL encryption key if you allow users to access MarketingPilot from outside your firewall. 128-bit keys are widely available from a variety of vendors (Type “SSL encryption” in any search engine). Keys may take several hours or days to obtain.
    10. To enable PDF thumbnailing Adobe Acrobat Release 5.0 Standard or Professional or higher must be installed on the Web Server using the ASP.NET Windows login to enable access by MarketingPilot users. Please review your Acrobat license agreement to ensure that you are in compliance.

Storage Requirements
It is very difficult to estimate how large your database will be. Every organization is different and works with different kinds and sizes of documents and digital assets. We recommend the following initial allocations. We recommend allocating 4 times as much free disk space as calculated below on the database server:

  1. The MarketingPilot Web Server requires approximately 50MB of available disk space upon completion of the installation.
  2. The MarketingPilot database’s storage requirements depend upon whether users are allowed to store documents and digital assets in the MarketingPilot database.
    1. No documents or digital assets allowed. Allocate 25MB per licensed user. For example, if you have 25 users, you should resize the database to 25 users x 25 MB/user = 625 MB.
    2. Documents stored in the MarketingPilot database. On the server allocate 250MB per user. For example, if you have 20 users, you should resize the database to 20 users x 250 MB/user = 5.0 GB.

If you use SQL Server, set the database to grow using default SQL Server settings, or settings you prefer.

Known Incompatibility
The MarketingPilot Web Server is incompatible with Microsoft Sharepoint. The Web Server cannot be run on an IIS Server where Sharepoint is installed.
