Prerequisites
It takes approximately 1-2 hour to upgrade MarketingPilot Web Server from Release 2 to Release 3.
- You will need to obtain a new license key (we have changed our license key to enhance security). and the download password. To get a new license key and unlock password, send an email to support.
- Please note: Only registered users who have valid license keys and download passwords can use the software available here. If you are a registered user and need a license key, contact support.
Important Upgrade Notes
In Web Server 2 Campaigns and Jobs can be associated with multiple Programs. In Web Server 3 Campaigns and Jobs can only be associated with one Program. After the upgrade, Campaigns and Jobs that were associated with more than one Program will only be associated with the first (by Program ID) Program. All other associations will be removed. The Database Upgrade Utility will provide you with a list of these items so that you can take appropriate action.
Compatibility
MarketingPilot Web Server 3 IS NOT compatible with MarketingPilot for Windows.
Overview
To upgrade MarketingPilot you will need to perform the following steps:
- Upgrade the database.
- Upgrade the Web Server software.
- Start the SQL Server distributed transaction coordinator (DTC) service.
- Login and authenticate your installation by entering the license key.
1. Unistall the Alert Processor
Login to MarketingPilot using a MarketingPilot login with the Administrator role.
- Open the Site folder.
- Display the Alerts page.
- Click on the Uninstall Alert Processor button.
- Logoff.
If you installed the Alert Processor on a different server follow the instructions in the Web Server 2 Online Help to uninstall the Alert Service manually.
2. Login to IIS and Remove the Web Server 2 Virtual Directory.
- Login to IIS.
- Delete the Web Server 2 Virtual Directory; this will prevent users from accessing the system while the upgrade is being performed.
- DO NOT delete the Web Server 2 directory and files.
3. Create a Data Source for the Upgrade Utility
- Login on the database server, or a computer from which you want to run the database upgrade utility.
- Create a Data Source for the Upgrade Utility. The upgrade utility requires a Data Source to connect to the MarketingPilot database.
- In Windows click on the Start button, then click on Settings, then Administrative Tools.
- Click on Data Sources (ODBC).
- Click on the System DSN tab.
- Click on Add to launch the DSN Wizard.
- Select the SQL Server driver.

- Click Finish.
- The Data Source must be named “MarketingPilot.” Select the Server or type in the IP Address of the Server where the SQL Server database is located.

- Click Next.
- Specify the SQL Server Login ID to use.

- Click Next.
- Change the default database to MarketingPilot.


- Click Finish.
- Click Test Data Source to validate your DSN.

4. Download the MarketingPilot Database Upgrade Utility
5. Run the Database Upgrade Utility
- Double-click on the Upgrade Utility icon to start the program. You are prompted to provide dbo login credentials.
- The Upgrade Utility displays the backup reminder window. Backup your database!

- The Upgrade Utility has 5 main phases. As the Upgrade Utility progresses, it will display its progress via a window with status bars and a console.

- When you see the “Conversion Complete” message in the console the upgrade is completed.
- Close the Upgrade Utility.
6. Turn DTS (Distributed Transaction Coordinator) Service On
Configure the DTC service to start automatically.
- In Windows click on Start and Go to Administrative Tools and select Services.
- Start TDC and set its properties to start automatically.
Or,
- In the SQL Server Enterprise Manager, Right click on the SQL Server where MarketingPilot is installed and select Properties.
- Check the Auto start MSDTC.
