The MarketingPilot Web Server consists of three components - the alert service, database and web server – which may reside on the same server or on separate servers. To install MarketingPilot you will need the following items:
Web Client
Users require a computer with an internet browser such as Internet Explorer (6 & 7), Netscape Navigator, Firefox or Safari (Our word processor has limited functions when using Safari). MarketingPilot requires no plug-ins or dlls and doesn't require a JVM (Java Virtual Machine).
Web Server Requirements
Security
Windows Power User or Administrators privileges are required to enable you to install software on your desktop computer and server.
- Minimum hardware requirements consist of one Windows computer (XP, Server 2000, or Server 2003) with at least 2 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk storage and a 1GHz Pentium processor. A faster processor and additional RAM will improve performance. We strongly recommend the provision of a back up device to protect data.
- A non-dedicated Windows server running Microsoft Internet Information Service (R5 or higher) and .Net 2.0. We recommend IIS 6 because of its improved security and performance.
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is recommended; Microsoft SQL Server 2000 SP4 is also supported. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 with SQL Server Reporting Services is required to support custom report development and deployment. A SQL Server authenticated login is required to attach the MarketingPilot database.
- The Alert Service must be installed on a Windows computer. It requires approximately 50MB of available memory and 100 MB of available disk storage.
- Users require a computer with an internet browser such as Internet Explorer 6 or 7, Netscape Navigator, Firefox or Safari. Our word processor has limited functions when using Safari.
- A valid license key to install MarketingPilot. License Keys are sent via email to the registered Administrator who was designated at the time of purchase. If you need a license key resent to you, contact Support.
- We strongly recommend that you obtain and configure a 128-bit SSL encryption key if you allow users to access MarketingPilot from outside your firewall. 128-bit keys are widely available from a variety of vendors (Type “SSL encryption” in any search engine). Keys may take several hours or days to obtain.
Report Designer Client
Users who will be designing custom reports require the Microsoft Business Intelligence Development Studio. The Business Intelligence Development Studio requires Windows XP or Vista. The Microsoft Business Intelligence Development Studio is a standard component included at no cost in all editions of Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Reports developed using the Business Intelligence Development Studio can be viewed by both Windows and Macintosh users.
Storage Requirements
It is very difficult to estimate how large a database will be. Every organization is different and works with different kinds and sizes of documents and digital assets. We recommend the following initial allocations. We recommend allocating 4 times as much free disk space as calculated below on the database server:
- The MarketingPilot Web Server requires approximately 500MB of available disk space upon completion of the installation.
- The MarketingPilot database’s storage requirements depend upon whether users are allowed to store documents and digital assets in the MarketingPilot database.
- No documents or digital assets allowed. Allocate 25MB per licensed user. For example, if you have 25 users, you should resize the database to 25 users x 25 MB/user = 625 MB.
- Documents stored in the MarketingPilot database. On the server allocate 1GB per user. For example, if you have 20 users, you should resize the database to 20 users x 250 MB/user = 5.0 GB.
If you use SQL Server, set the database to grow using default SQL Server settings, or settings you prefer.
Known Incompatibility
The MarketingPilot Web Server is incompatible with Microsoft Sharepoint. The Web Server cannot be run on an IIS Server where Sharepoint is installed. |
